Supreme Court Rejects California Video Game Law
The Supreme Court today ruled that the state of California cannot ban the sale or rental of violent video games to children. The high court agreed with the lower court’s decision to throw out the ban, ruling 7 - 2 that the law was unconstitutional, as it violated minors' constitutional rights. The law would have prohibited anyone under the age of 18 from buying or renting a violent video game, with retailers caught violating the proposed law paying a $1,000 fine.Over 46 million households in the U.S. now have at least one video game system, with the industry achieving more than $18 billion in sales in 2010.Shares of Take-Two Interactive Software (NASDAQ:TTWO) are trading up 1.89% at $15.08 on the news, with Activision Blizzard Inc (NASDAQ:ATVI) trading up 1.59% at $11.47 per share.
