World Music: Aterciopelados, "Rio"
-Download on iTunes(Colombia) Water gives life to humanity, to all plants and animals and is fast becoming one of the Earth’s most precious and endangered resources, due to industrial pollution, global warming and sheer mass consumption. The Bogotà River, named for the city it flows through is one of the world's most polluted waterways, and in "Rio" (from the new CD of the same name) Andrea Echeverri and Hector Buitrago  make a plea for this river to be cleaned, so that its waters may once again support vibrant, healthy life. The river appears as a giant anaconda, slithering and splashing color over actual photos of Bogotà; then morphs into two river spirits. Animations of Echeverri and Buitrago appear, the latter wearing a gas mask, and the former making the connection between water and amniotic fluid. The song itself sports edgy chord inversions and an attractive guitar vamp on the chorus. Chalk up another socially conscious song from this thoughtful rock ensemble.
