With the help of friends and colleagues, in January 2006 a water well was dug 52 meters below the surface at the edge of a small community on the shores of the Rio Negro, Terra Preta, BZ. When I first visited the place in Feb 2005, the 32 families living there used the contaminated water of the Rio Negro for their needs - small children were often sick.
