I knew something special was coming."Slater actually had clinched the title in the quarterfinals by defeating Brazil's Adriano de Souza 18.87-14.36, then knocked off Taj Burrow 16.34-14.87 and, finally, Bede Durbidge 18.77-14.43. Slater scored a perfect 10 in that final with two huge whips, capped by a complete rotation, no-grab aerial.Slater became the oldest world surfing champion -- and also was the youngest (20), just two years after turning pro after his junior year at Cocoa Beach High.
