アフガニスタンに駐留するアメリカ軍のうち、撤退計画の第1陣となる650人が撤退開始
アフガニスタンに駐留するアメリカ軍のうち、オバマ大統領が発表した撤退計画の第1陣となる650人が、15日までにアフガニスタンからの撤退を開始した。国防総省によると、撤退を開始したのは、東部パルワン州に駐留していたおよそ650人で、別の地域にいた部隊450人が、代わりにパルワン州に入ったという。アメリカ軍は、旧タリバン政権が崩壊した2001年以来、10年にわたってアフガ二スタンに展開し、現在は、およそ10万人が駐留している。オバマ大統領は年末までに1万人、2012年夏までに3万3,000人の部隊を撤退させ、2014年末までに、アフガニスタン当局に権限を委譲する予定だが、治安の悪化が懸念されている。
