While some of the aid pledged to Haiti will be used for the long term reconstruction of the country, the priority now is to provide Haitians with the basics - like food, shelter and clean drinking water. The country’s water supplies were badly affected by the earthquake; many water sources and ground water are now contaminated. One German organization is using its expertise to provide Haitians with what has become a precious commodity.
