Toles, 30, was declared dead at the scene after his 2008 Ford Fusion struck a utility pole, sheared a fire hydrant and rammed into a parked vehicle just north of Tuscarawas Street W on Perry Drive NW at about 5:20 a.m. Monday. Toles and a woman passenger rep More..ortedly fled from officers after a 35-year-old man called police to his home in the 5300 block of Perry Hills Drive SW, saying there were two unwelcome people in the home. “The victim said he did not want the subjects there, and upon later speaking with him, we learned that the individuals held him against his will,” said township Police Chief Michael Pomesky. The two left the man’s home and were stopped in the 2400 block of Perry Drive SW. During the stop, the woman, who was driving, got out of the car and Toles jumped into the driver’s seat and drove north on Perry, according to police. “He was traveling at a very high rate of speed,” said Lt. Toles, whose last known address was in Pittsburgh, died at 6:34 a.m., according to Harry Campbell, Stark County coroner’s office investigator. An autopsy is scheduled for today. Toles served 71⁄2 years in a Pennsylvania prison earlier this decade following a felony robbery conviction. He also served time in prison following a perjury conviction before being released Oct. 24, 2009, said Sue Bensinger, spokeswoman for the Pennsylvania Department of Corrections.
